Online soldering course

Would you like to learn soldering from your home, workplace or anywhere you choose? This online soldering course has been designed to let you do just that!

Maybe you dream of working in electronics, have a practical interview coming up, have a PCB you need to assemble or you just want to learn to solder. Then this course is for you.

You will be taught how to solder small surface mount resistors, capacitors, diodes and integrated circuits. You will learn to recognise common soldering problems and understand how to fix them.

The online soldering course will cover important information on ESD safety, IPC standards and much more. The “hands on” lessons include step by step instructions and pictures.

Step By Step Instructions

The course concludes with a mini quiz. All you need is a soldering iron, solder, a PCB to practice on and some components to place. A full list of the recommended items is shown below. Soldering is a useful skill to have and we really hope you join us.

Once enrolled in this course you can log back in any time. Practice whenever you like and become an expert.

There are few PCB soldering classes available online. The ones that are seem to concentrate on the right solder and tools. Although this is important, learning to solder Printed circuit boards is a practical journey. This course allows you to read the instructions and carry out the task. If it goes wrong, it doesn’t matter. There is no teacher stood over you. You will simply remove the part and try again.

What will this course teach me?

The course begins with a short lesson in safety when soldering and an introduction to ESD safety and IPC standards. Don’t worry if you haven’t heard of these before, they will all be explained during the course.

You will then learn component package types. And polarity markings on components and on printed circuits boards.

Once these sections are completed you will then have the opportunity to fit various components. All these lesson have images to explain.

After learning to fit components you will learn how to identify good and bad solder joints and other common faults.

What happens when I finish the course?

As a result of completing the online soldering course you will have gained valuable knowledge and skills. We recommend you practice your new skills as often as possible. Good soldering takes practice. Therefore, the more you practice the better you will become.

A certificate can be requested when the course is completed. An electronic copy of the certificate will be sent to the email address given at time of enrollment. The name on the certificate will be the name given on enrollment.

I want to apply for work in the electronics industry. Will this course help?

Yes, many potential employers now use a Soldering test during an interview. This may consist of fitting surface mount resistors, capacitors and diodes.

A test may also include identifying soldering faults. Such as, short circuits, open circuits and misplaced components. This course will show how to fit these parts and identify these faults. As you can log in anytime you can practice as often as required.

I have purchased a PCB kit I would like to build. Will this course help?

If you have purchased a kit that consists of surface mount resistors, diodes and IC’s then this course will most certainly help you with your project. The course explains how components should be placed and soldered.

I want to be employed at home completing soldering piece work. Will this course help?

If the piece work you will be soldering consists of various surface mount components this course will help you.

I want to change a faulty component on a circuit board. Will this course show me how?

This is a beginners course. It will show you how to remove and fit 0603, 0805, 1206 and SOT23 components. So if you want to learn how to replace these parts this is the course for you. This course is not suitable for those hoping to learn fine pitch soldering or BGA repairs.
